7 games in 19 days - and still won 5 of them and the league. The Thursday/Sunday/Tuesday/Friday period in particular. Makes Friday/Monday/(Thursday/Friday) look a doddle in comparison.
Still I suppose the physical demands were a lot less then with players like Andy Platt, Kelvin Skerrett, McDermott, Betts and Cowie plus the athletes of today need more careful looking after than the likes of Offiah, Edwards, Botica and Connolly ever did.
Some amazing attendances there BTW.'"
91 Was Better (Dubbed Mission Impossible)
9 games in 21 days - Winning 8 and 1 x Draw
5 Games in 9 days - Winning 4 and 1 x Draw
4 Homes games in 7 days including :-
Thurs - Saints - 17580
Sunday - Cas - 14k
Tuesday - Widnes - Just short of 30k (And I swear if you counted the people climbing over the walls as the queues were that long it would have been 35k!)
Thurs - Bradford - over 19k
Saturday - Then had to go to Leeds and win last game 2DAYS Later as they'd brought it forward for TV!!!!
About 16k on and I reckon 6/7k of those were from Wigan (And it was Live on ITV IIRC)
Makes 1 x Easter Fri-Monday look like a Holiday!
As an Aside - What would the fans of today do having to pay for all those games!!!
They Moan now because they have to pay for a ticket for a CC or Play off game - with less fans travelling now so not paying for as many away games IMO
