Castleford Tigers head coach Daryl Powell has named a strong 21-man squad to face Widnes Vikings in a pre-season friendly at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle on Sunday (kick-off 3pm).

Most of the senior players in the first team squad will get a run out and the match will see a welcome return to action for club captain Michael Shenton.

Shenton said: “It’s great to be back involved with the team, we’ve improved with each game so far so we’ll be looking for another improvement against Widnes, who themselves have recruited very well this season.

“This game should be a good marker as to where we are at as a team.”

The Castleford Tigers squad v Widnes Vikings:

 Ashley Gibson

Thought he was crap but really came into his own in 2014 at the Storm. Think they will go well under Powell again...

I'm not so sure. I like Cas and they were great to watch last year, but losing Clark, Sneyd and Huby are huge losses and replacing them with the likes of Scott Moore, I'd be surprised to see them in the top half this season. |

Agree I expect us to finish higher than them this season. |

I hope so, but I still think they're better than us from 1 - 5, even with the loss of Dixon; evens at 6; SH - Joe over Gale yet again (remember Odsal?), then our pack may have the edge on theirs this time. Sneyd and Clark are big losses but then so was Chase, and that turned out the making of them.

Fair play they were Classy Cas again last year. Always my fave away game, is th'Ose. |

I would say our squad has strengthened more and Castleford slightly weaker. They have a top coach that can work wonders. The postion will depend on their health of players.

Don't think our boss has managed to put one over on him yet in about half a dozen meetings in championship,SL and challenge cup.

Very strong squad, i do however wonder what has happened to Paul Johnson? always seemed pretty solid when he plays yet hasn't featured in any pre season games or even mentioned around the group although he his training. Jack Owens and Liam Carberry also missing.

Same with Owens, one game out of three. It's not good unless of course both are carrying knocks.

Well as i said it will all come down to health of their team. If lose key injuries to players, and we have some luck, then we could do better. If i was a betting man then just above Widnes. But i also wonder if teams have sussed them out more now? |
